In which cases is implant treatment applied?

In cases where there are no teeth in the upper and lower jaw, bone resorption and the patient cannot use the total prosthesis, the prosthesis is placed on the implants to increase the retention. If the molars in the posterior region end without teeth, the problem is solved with a single member or several implants and fixed bridges instead of wearing a removable prosthesis.

In long edentulous gaps, problems occur due to the long bodies of the bridges. The durability and support of long bridges can be increased with extra implants applied in long gaps to be applied to the toothless area.

In the case of a single missing tooth, instead of reducing the tooth in front of and behind the gap to make a fixed bridge, the gap is closed with 1 member implant and coating applied to the gap without treating the healthy teeth next to it.

What should be considered before getting a dental implant?

Implants are biocompatible materials applied to the jaw to provide functional and aesthetic appearance of missing teeth. Implant screws are materials with a certain thickness and length. How the implant is applied

The implant procedure is performed in 5 steps. These are as follows:

Examination: This stage consists of general health and dental examination of the patient. If the general health condition of the patient is favourable for implantation, the dentist decides on the type and length of the implant to be used according to the special X-ray taken and the condition of the teeth in the mouth.
Operation: The implant is placed under local anaesthesia. The procedure may take between 30-90 minutes depending on the number of implants to be applied.
Healing process: After the implant is placed, it takes 3-6 months for it to osteointegrate into the bone. During the healing phase, if necessary, a temporary prosthesis is made to the patient and the patient is provided with nutrition without excessive pressure on the implants.
Placement of the implant superstructure: Implants generally consist of two parts. The first part is the cylindrical part placed in the jawbone. The second part is the part that is compatible with the part inside the bone, which we call abutment.
Prosthetics: The prosthesis is made when the superstructure is measured.

Endosteal Implants

This is the most commonly used type of implant and is placed directly into the jawbone. It can be in the form of screws, cylinders or small plates. After the healing process is completed, a prosthetic tooth is placed on the implant placed in the jawbone. It is an ideal option for patients with a solid bone structure.

Subperiosteal Implants

It is placed over the jawbone, under the gum tissue. It is generally used for patients who do not have sufficient bone structure. A dental prosthesis is placed on the implant. This type of implant is not as common as endosteal implants, but it is an alternative for patients without suitable bone structure.

Zygomatic Implants

Unlike conventional implants, these implants are placed in the cheekbone (zygoma bone), not in the jawbone. It is especially preferred for patients with severe bone loss in the upper jaw. It is a longer and more complex procedure, but offers a solution without bone grafting.

Mini Implants

1Is pain felt during implant treatment?

However, mild swelling and pain may occur after the procedure, which is usually controlled with simple painkillers. There may be a feeling at the level of discomfort experienced after tooth extraction. After the operation, applying cold compresses for 2-3 days can help reduce swelling. 2How long after implant placement can food be eaten?

Following implant placement, it is recommended not to eat until the anaesthesia wears off (approximately 2-4 hours), as local anaesthesia is usually applied.
