Prostheses on Implants: Healthy and Aesthetic Solutions
What is Implant Overdenture?
Prostheses on the top of implants are one of the most modern and healthy solutions for patients without teeth. The implant prosthesis is prepared for the patient with the methods specially planned by the dentist and placed on the implants. Prostheses placed after surgical procedures have many advantages. In addition, thanks to today's advanced technological equipment, it is possible to visually simulate the treatment results before or during the treatment. This feature allows patients to anticipate the treatment outcome and start the process with confidence.
Why Implant Overdenture is Important?
Implant prostheses are of great importance for people with serious oral health problems. In patients who have no teeth in the mouth but have sufficient bone structure, the treatment is completed without any problems. In patients with insufficient bone structure, bone formation is achieved by applying advanced surgical techniques and prosthesis is made. For patients with missing teeth in the aesthetic area, tooth placement on the implant provides a great privilege. In addition, digital simulation techniques used during treatment planning allow patients to enter the treatment process with confidence.

Types of Implant Prosthesis
Implants are a saviour treatment option for both patients with a single missing tooth and patients with no teeth at all. The types of implant prosthesis are selected according to the needs of the patient. In general, two types of dentures are preferred for treatment. The dentist determines the best way of treatment by sharing the types of prosthesis that can be applied with the patient.
Implant Fixed Prosthesis
Fixed prostheses are divided into two types:
- Simante Fixed Prostheses: They are attached to abutments screwed onto the implant and cannot be removed by the patient. If necessary, the prosthesis is cut out under the doctor's control. In patients with missing all teeth in one jaw, a minimum of 6 implants should be placed in the jawbone.
- Hybrid Fixed Prostheses: These prostheses are placed in the mouth by screwing technique. It cannot be removed by the patient, but can be easily removed by the doctor. This method requires a minimum of 4 implants in a single jaw.
Movable Prosthesis on Implant
Mobile prostheses are prostheses that can be easily inserted and removed by the patient or the doctor. They are preferred for patients with weak bone tissue and insufficient support for fixed prostheses. This makes it easier to clean the implant area and prosthesis. Removable prostheses have support parts called attachments and these parts provide retention.
Care of Implant Prostheses
People with implant prostheses in the mouth should regularly maintain the prostheses. Without regular maintenance, serious problems related to oral and dental health can be encountered. The care of implant prostheses differs according to removable and fixed types. Your dentist will give detailed information on this subject.
Care of Implant Removable Prostheses
When caring for removable dentures, the patient should remove the dentures during the day or in the evening. When the prosthesis is removed, it should be cleaned with a soft toothbrush, water and liquid soap. Twice daily cleaning is recommended. The remaining area inside the mouth should also be cleaned with a toothbrush, but boiling water should not be used.
Care of Implant Fixed Prostheses
Fixed dentures cannot be removed by the patient; therefore, the patient should brush twice a day. In the case of a single tooth implant, the part of the bridge facing the gums should be cleaned with under-bridge cleaning threads (superfloss) and special brushes. In addition, hygiene can be provided with mouth washers.
Control Inspections
Control examinations are very important for the healthy use of implant prostheses for many years. 6-month or annual checks should not be neglected. The dentist prevents the patient from having problems in the future by cleaning the implant and prosthesis areas during the controls.
